Innovation and Commitment: The Story of ZEWATECH in Wastewater Treatment
I remember several meetings a few years ago with different professionals: engineers, technologists, and representatives from various companies. They all shared a common frustration: finding an effective solution for wastewater treatment seemed like an almost impossible task. Despite having expensive, state-of-the-art imported equipment, the results were mediocre and maintenance was a nightmare. It was not just about cleaning the water, but doing it efficiently, sustainably, and profitably. These experiences, repeated with different people, were the catalyst that drove ZEWATECH’s mission.

Origin of Our Focus on R&D&I
At ZEWATECH, our investment in R&D&I emerged as a direct response to a critical shortage in the national market: the lack of efficient solutions for complex wastewater treatment. For years, we depended on foreign companies with prohibitively expensive equipment that limited our technical and commercial agility. Between 2000 and 2005, we decided to take matters into our own hands and develop our own vacuum evaporators, becoming pioneers in Spain in this field.
The Evolution of Our Technology
We started by manufacturing heat pump technology, and soon installed several machines in clients, significantly improving their efficiency in terms of fouling and scaling, performance, and ease of management. This initial success was supported by crucial software that balanced the energy cost and product concentration.
Subsequently, we focused on mechanical compression technology, which proved to be a significant energy saving, reducing consumption from 180-200 kW/m³ to 60-70 kW/m³. In addition, we took advantage of residual energies from various sources, such as the heat from cooling towers and cogeneration engines, to evaporate wastewater, giving rise to our new line of business: the VTS (Versatile Thermal Sources) models.

Integration of the ZLD System
Our commitment to innovation and sustainability led us to integrate Zero Discharge (ZLD) systems into our solutions. This advanced technology acts as a post-treatment of concentration or crystallization of membrane systems, offering our clients the possibility of achieving close to 100% water reuse.
Continuous Innovation and the TurboFlash System
Recently, we have further optimized the steam mechanical compression system, incorporating technological innovations unique in Europe. These efforts have reduced energy costs to 15-30 kW/m³, differentiating us in terms of technical solvency and energy efficiency.
The TurboFlash system, our latest innovation, combines steam mechanical compression with specially treated steam turbines to handle gases and volatiles. These turbines, made with special and high-speed alloys, together with the Flash system of water spraying in the boiler, allow for more efficient evaporation and a significant reduction in energy costs.
